Reforming Nigeria’s 419 Email Scammers – Is It Possible?
By
A friend forwarded me this intriguing article on one man’s efforts to rehabilitate young Nigerian 419ers.
Adeolu Adewunmi is a young man who runs Street Skills, an organization that rehabilitates 419 scammers
The article really gets into the details and history of the Nigerian 419 industry.
Starting from the first generation of Nigerian 419 scammers from the 80s, who became “big men” in society,
to the 2nd generation of 419ers – largely educated University students and graduates, plagued by unemployment…
to the 3rd generation… small time kids who want the fast money and fast cars that they’ve seen with the 2nd generation of 419ers.
Wow.
Is this what Nigeria has come to?
Are these people justified, because they have few job prospects?
OF COURSE NOT.
And yet, we can’t deny that too many people in Nigerian society today worship wealth and power… regardless of how it was achieved.
